Queen Elizabeth II dies: Biden pays tribute before funeral

LONDON: The President of the United States paid emotional tribute to Queen Elizabeth II on the eve of her funeral, on Sunday.

Joe Biden said, Britain and the world are lucky to have a dignified and dedicated individual on the throne for 70 years.

Biden was among many dignitaries and royals from Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas who arrived in London for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, on Monday.

The president of the United States added that the queen’s death at the age of 96 has left a huge void on the global stage.

Meanwhile, Biden had time to sign a book of condolences and visit the body of Queen Elizabeth II which is in a coffin in Westminster Abbey.

Biden also stated that he had met the heir to the throne, King Charles III and gave words of encouragement to him that Queen Elizabeth II would be with him every step of the way and every moment.

Hundreds of thousands of people descended on London to bid farewell to Britain’s longest-reigning monarch.

People from home and abroad lined up for hours to pay their last respects.

The President of the United States later joined King Charles III and other leaders for an evening reception ahead of the state funeral.

Biden is one of 14 Presidents of the United States who held office during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

Biden will join Presidents, Prime Ministers, Kings, Queens and Sultans representing nearly 200 countries and territories at the funeral.
