Queen Elizabeth II dies: 96 dabs of cannon fire fired
LONDON: 96 cannon shots shook the entire territory of the United Kingdom and its patronage on Friday.
It marks the end of the age of Queen Elizabeth II, as the country’s longest-serving monarch.
The cannon ceremony also marked the start of the 10-day final official tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II, who died on Thursday.
In London, flags at half-mast and portraits of Britain’s longest-reigning monarch hung at bus stations across the city, while certain shops hung black ribbons outside their windows.
Queen Elizabeth II is Britain’s longest-reigning monarch and a symbol of constancy in a turbulent era that has seen the decline of the British empire and disarray within her own family.
At the same time, the British Parliament held a special session to honor Queen Elizabeth II.
