PVTM, MTUC discuss the fight for the welfare of art industry people

SHAH ALAM: The Malaysian Television Producers Association (PVTM) will hold discussions with the Malaysian Trade Union Congress (MTUC) in the near future to establish a union involving art industry activists across the country.

Its president, Datuk Jurey Latiff Rosli said, the union aims to fight for the welfare of the industrialists including the aspect of salary payment.

According to him, the matter is taken seriously by his side considering that until now the issue of minimum wage payment among workers in the creativity sector has not been resolved.

“So with the existence of this union, it has an act and we can fight for the wage scale in terms of how much wages should be paid to the people of this industry.

“Indirectly, there is a more ideal salary level that can be set for them (industrial workers) later,” he said as a panelist in Wacana Sinar Edisi 384 titled ‘Bantu Rakyat: Apa Fate Pekerja Bawahan’ hosted by Ismail Adnan on Tuesday.

Also participating in the program were the MTUC President, Mohd Effendy Abdul Ghani and the Malaysian Employers’ Federation (MEF) President, Datuk Shamsuddin Bardan.

In the meantime, Jurey also voiced the issue of royalties regarding film or drama works broadcast to the public.

He explained that many industry activists did not receive remuneration from these works even though they were broadcast repeatedly on television.

“If they get the royalties, it can be given to the actors, scriptwriters and people behind the administration, so it can help them.

“So, here there is a responsibility if one day they are unable to work,” he said.
