Pulau Films: Trailers on social media outside of LPF’s jurisdiction
The film Pulau, which will be shown next March 9, received criticism from various parties who urged the LPF to review the approval given.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Film Censor Board (LPF) under the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) carries out the task of censoring films and publicity materials that are broadcast, exhibited, disseminated, screened, distributed or transmitted physically, except through the internet.
Therefore, the screening of Pulau movie trailers made online is outside the jurisdiction of the LPF, even the content of the trailer is also different from the content submitted for censorship.
According to the LPF, there are several criteria that will be evaluated before it makes a decision on the censorship of film content and film publicity material based on the KDN’s Film Censorship Guidelines (GPPF) 2010.
The criteria include public safety and order, religious, socio-cultural and order and discipline.
“The film Pulau is a horror film and not a porn film as advertised.
“LPF found that there is a difference between the trailer content shared on social media and the content submitted for censorship,” he said in a statement today.
He added that the LPF is always sensitive to the morals and socio-culture of Malaysian society and implements film screening as stipulated in the guidelines.
Earlier, the film Pulau, which will be shown next March 9, received criticism from various parties who urged the LPF to review the approval given.
On Tuesday, the media reported that the release of the trailer of the horror film sparked controversy because it allegedly contained hot and pornographic scenes.
Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil also believes that the trailer is not suitable to be shown because it is believed to involve a violation of standard operating procedures (SOP).
