Prince Harry, Meghan was asked to vacate the residence in the British Palace
LONDON: Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have been asked to vacate Frogmore Cottage, the home within King Charles’s Windsor Castle estate that they use while in Britain.
Earlier, the Sun newspaper reported that the house had been offered by the king to his brother, Prince Andrew.
Charles’ decision follows the couple’s damaging revelations about Harry’s father, his brother Prince William and other royals in a Netflix documentary memoir and a series of TV interviews.
A spokesperson for the couple confirmed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been asked to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage.
Prince Andrew, the king’s younger brother, was forced to step down from his royal role because of his relationship with convicted US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The newspaper reported that Andrew wanted to stay in his current home nearby rather than move to Frogmore Cottage.
Buckingham Palace said it would not comment on the report, but a royal source said any such discussions would be a private family matter.
Harry and Meghan moved to Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Castle estate in west London after their wedding in 2018.
After stepping down from their royal duties in 2020, they moved to California to forge a new life and career, but Frogmore Cottage remains their British base.
They also agreed to repay 2.4 million pounds of taxpayers’ money spent on renovating the house.
Harry and Meghan have rarely returned to Britain since they left for the United States but have used Frogmore on the few occasions they have returned, such as for the late Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations last year.
Relations between the couple and the rest of the family have been strained since then, following scathing criticism of the royals and their aides in her book ‘Spare’.
The controversy has cast doubt on whether Harry will attend his father’s coronation in May.
