Praised by Ryan Reynolds: “Surprised and screamed while I want to break fast!” – Sofyank
A social media ‘INFLUENCER’ and editor known for his video visual effects (VFX) editing skills, Sofyank was shocked and did not expect his work to get the attention of Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds.
Sofyank or his real name is Mohamad Sofian Abdullah, 26, said he noticed Ryan re -posting his video last Monday when he received a non -stop notification on Twitter during breaking fast.
“I was eating breaking fast with friends. Suddenly my Twitter notification went up and I checked what was going on.
“Apparently someone quotes ‘Sofyank tengok ni’. There’s Ryan’s name in there and when I open it, apparently there’s a video of me in there.
“I shouted, the friends on the other side were shocked. We didn’t think because I had posted the video on social media for three days and it was only the third day that he noticed. I reminded him that maybe there was no opportunity to show it to him.
“Our task at the beginning was to make a video only with other content creators , when Ryan retweeted , I thought I had made a living,” he told Gempak.
The video produced by Sofyank shows himself riding a hoverboard to enter a portal like one of the scenes in the science fiction film, The Adam Project before finally meeting and sitting next to Ryan.
Praise Ryan when watching the video; “I think this has set an unfair standard for a 4-minute rush interview.”
Process a month
Recounting the video editing process, said the Wakaf Bahru, Kelantan native, it took more than a month to complete.
“I was offered a month before getting the chance to join the video junket in conjunction with The Adam Project promotion. After preparing a storyboard to produce the video with Ryan, the agency agreed and I had the opportunity to make a brief video call with him for four minutes.
“After the video session with Ryan, I recorded my scene using a green screen. The process took only three hours.
“The long process was editing because instead of a video call, I only had 16 seconds to get the best moments with it.
“So, I decided to add special visual effects (CGI) at the beginning of the video that took a snippet from his acting film, but recreated it in a budget version,” he recounts earnestly.
Interested in Ryan’s acting since watching the movie Deadpool, Sofyank was overwhelmed when he got the attention from social media users at home and abroad giving positive words towards his work.
“Many support and quote Ryan’s comments, I was surprised when I read the comments of many Malaysians support. I was touched by the positive comments from foreign Twitter users. So, this is viral in a good way,” he added.
Asked about his interest in collaborating with international artists after this, Sofyank still keeps the dream of collaborating with his idol, Zach King.
“I dream of collaborating with my idol, Zach King. I still dream of collaborating with him but when I get the attention of foreign artists, I still consider it extra sustenance,” he said.
Hollywood
Earlier, Sofyank’s work caught the attention of Will Smith who also uploaded his edited video to social media.
Of course the extraordinary attention was seen as a stepping stone for Sofyank a step into the Hollywood film industry.
“The dream is there but for now I’m praying for the best. What people are saying I still can’t admit because I know my level. To be honest personally I’m not yet qualified to go to Hollywood.
“If I can go, I will go to study, because I want to know the editing environment of great films.
“Production there if you want to produce special visual effects requires thousands of people, so I want to feel the learning experience and application in the local industry,” he said.
In fact, Sofyank is not in a hurry to publish his own film even though some see the young man’s work as neater than the existing local production.
“If you ask about my ambitions, there is a desire to publish my own film, but due to the current situation, I can’t be too hasty to take the opportunity. I don’t want to fall for it.
“I want it to be when we produce our own films when we are really ready. Finance, ideas, skills, equipment.
“My interest is towards science fiction movies. I also like watching Hollywood superhero movies because I want to see them create special visual effects that are unexpected by our minds,” he said, closing the conversation.
As of this writing, the video has been viewed over 1.4 million times on Twitter.
