Perak Stadium floodlight cable stolen, loss over RM135,000
IPOH: The Ipoh City Council (MBI) had to bear a loss of more than RM135,000 after the room that houses the cables and floodlight components at the Perak Stadium was broken into last Tuesday.
The mayor of Ipoh, Datuk Rumaizi Baharin, said the incident was noticed when his side was carrying out maintenance work in preparation for the Malaysian Football League (MFL) scheduled to take place from 25 February.
According to him, he found that the High Mast Pole 3 room had been broken into.
“Almost the entire cable has been cut and floodlight components have been stolen by irresponsible parties,” he said in a statement here last night.
According to him, a report has been made and the investigation has been fully handed over to the police.
He added that following the incident, MBI has tightened security controls throughout the stadium area.
“The repair work has started to enable the Perak FC team’s first match against Kedah Darul Aman FC in the Super League to be held as scheduled,” he added.
Before this, it went viral on social media about the theft incident.
Meanwhile, Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Hassan when contacted confirmed the incident.
