GEORGE TOWN: Penang’s tourism industry is moving towards digitization through the launch of the ‘Penang Virtual Tour Series’, in an effort to improve the state’s position and attract more tourists.
State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said the initiative by Penang Global Tourism (PGT) and the Penang Tour Guides Association (PGTA) included a 10-episode video series that highlighted the state’s attractions by providing a clear picture of tourism attractions.
“This is Penang’s latest effort after successfully introducing the brochure The Opposite Side of the Island (Bukit Mertajam) , The Other Side of The Island (Balik Pulau and Teluk Bahang) , the Penang Roads brochure , the Muslim Tourism Guide booklet and launching Penang Welcomes You campaign .
“The various places and unique tourism products featured in the video allow viewers to better understand what Penang has to offer for a fun and unique experience on this ‘Pearl Island’,” he told reporters after the launch of the ‘Penang Virtual Tour Series’. here last night.
According to Yeoh, as an effort to attract more tourists, the video series will provide detailed explanations of some interesting locations in Penang from PGTA tour guides and can be viewed by the public through the association’s Facebook.
He said conventional media and new media were used to publicize the re-opening of international borders around the world and make Penang one of the main tourist destinations.
“We have also improved Penang’s position in the international market by speeding up the organization and participation in trade fairs and overseas tours that help connect the state with foreign markets,” he said.
