Pantai Mawar, Mersing is temporarily closed

MERSING: The Rose Beach area here is temporarily closed to the public starting yesterday until a date to be announced later.

Mersing District Officer Mohammed Shakib Ali said the closure follows a search and rescue operation (SAR) of a private higher education institution (IPTS) student who was reported missing after he was believed to be climbing a hill alone on Pulau Mawar still being carried out by the authorities.

“This is in line with the decision issued by the authorities about the closure of recreational areas at risk during the Northeast Monsoon season.

“The public is advised to take care of the safety of themselves and their families and obey every instruction issued by the authorities to prevent unwanted incidents from happening,” he said through a notice posted on the Mersing District Office’s Facebook page.

He said, in case of any emergency, the public can contact the Mersing District Security Committee at 07-7998831.

A report on the disappearance of Muhamad Akmal Hakimi Ishak, 20, was made by his father at the Kluang Police Station early Friday morning (February 3), after the young man had not returned to his home in Kluang since Wednesday (February 1).

The police then received a report about the discovery of a motorcycle believed to belong to the victim in good condition and unlocked in an area near Pulau Mawar at about 11.30am, last Friday and launched a SAR at 5pm, the same day.
