“Our happiness was tested during the pandemic” – Afdlin Shauki, Christina Orow announced their divorce
KUALA LUMPUR: There is no wind and no storm, the wife of actor Datuk Afdlin Shauki, Datin Maria Christina Orow Abdullah revealed that the ‘mahligai’ that the couple built for almost 25 years has collapsed.
Through a post on Instagram, Maria informed that the relationship between the two of them began to be problematic since the pandemic period before each of them decided to divorce last April.
“Our happy life was put to the test during the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused misunderstandings and became the cause of family breakdown.
“When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Afdlin and I’s life started to change, as if there was a misunderstanding. Although we tried to get back to normal life, but it didn’t work when each decided to choose their own path,” she said in a message on Friday.
Maria also told that there are only a few months left for the couple to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.
“However Afdlin and I decided that we finally announced our divorce last April.
“The decision was made quite quickly, perhaps because it was unavoidable, and because we did it not seeing it as an enemy or an end to our relationship,” she said.
Maria said, she made the announcement now because it has been three months since her iddah period ended.
“Actually, our life is going perfectly, seeing the children grow into people who start taking responsibility for their own lives and become a creative team growing the company together.
“This separation happened in stages when we started making decisions personally, on our own,” she said.
In addition, Maria also told that her responsibility with Afdlin in raising the children still continues and that the separation is not the reason for them not supporting each other.
“We are still mothers and fathers to our children, because we always believe we can still support and love each other like a normal family.
“One day, in the end everyone will live their own lives and what we do is not to reflect their lives, because we are still always with our children.
“Separation for me is not a destruction in our relationship, on the contrary we can still be good friends in continuing each other’s personal lives.
“I know Afdlin will continue to support me as a friend and soulmate, likewise I will support him in his career because his presence in my life is a precious meaning,” he said again.
Therefore, Maria hopes that people will respect the decision they made.
“We hope that friends and family don’t feel sad, and that people can accept this as a relatively normal and orderly life that many people live.
“We ask that our family and especially our children’s privacy be respected and that everyone is safe, healthy and happy,” explained Maria.
The couple became husband and wife in 1997 and have been blessed with three children namely Mia Sara, Anais and Ileana Matin.
Their eldest daughter, Mia Sara, is also involved in acting and is currently starring in the popular chain drama Histeria The Series.
