Oscars Awards: The Power of the Dog, Dune and West Side Story dominated the nominations

THE Power of the Dog dominated the 94th Academy Awards nominations with 12 nominations.

Dune, a science fiction epic film starring Timothée Chalamet, garnered 10 nominations, while Belfast and West Side Story garnered seven nominations.

Best Film nominated this years is Belfast, CODA, Don’t Look Up, Drive My Car, Dune, King Richard, Licorice Pizza, Nightmare Alley, The Power of the Dog dan West Side Story.

Director of The Power of the Dog, Jane Campion, who was once nominated through the film The Piano in 1993, became the first woman to ever be nominated twice for Best Director.

In addition to Campion, also nominated are Steven Spielberg (West Side Story), Kenneth Branagh (Belfast), Ryusuke Hamaguchi (Drive My Car) and Paul Thomas Anderson (Licorice Pizza).

For the Best Female Actor category, the final five nominees were Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye), Olivia Colman (The Lost Daughter), Penélope Cruz (Parallel Mothers), Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos), and Kristen Stewart (Spencer).

While for the Best Actor category, the five nominees are Javier Bardem (Being the Ricardos), Benedict Cumberbatch (The Power of the Dog), Andrew Garfield (tick, tick … BOOM!), Will Smith (King Richard) and Denzel Washington (The Tragedy of Macbeth).

The Best Foreign Film category saw competition from Drive My Car (Japan), Flee (Denmark), The Hand of God (Italy), Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom (Bhutan) and The Worst Person in the World (Norway).

Beyonce and Billie Eilish made personal history with their first nominations at the Academy, in the Best Original Song category, through Be Alive (King Richard) and No Time to Die (No Time To Die), respectively.

The 94th Academy Awards will take place on March 27 at the Dolby Theater, Los Angeles.
