“Old era cctors used to be close like brothers, now some actors are arrogant” – CEO Finas
It cannot be denied, the level of beautiful appearance has been the main factor in the selection of actors in the art scene of the country since long ago.
However, a beautiful appearance alone without talent is not enough for an actor to make a name for himself in the art field.
That’s a hot topic discussed in the Between Beauty and Talent forum? Where’s The Credibility Booster Magic? which took place at Dewan Perdana, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSKK), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Bangi, Selangor recently.
This forum is organized by the Malaysian Entertainment Journalists and Writers Association (WHAM) in collaboration with the Malaysian National Film Development Corporation (Finas) and FSKK, UKM in conjunction with the 32nd Malaysian Film Festival (FFM) which will take place on December 2.
The line-up of panelists who were invited to discuss the topic were the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Finas, Prof Dr Md Nasir Ibrahim; Committee member, Malaysian Film Producers Association who is also the Managing Director of Scope Production, Datuk Yusof Haslam and veteran artist, Noor Kumalasari.
Not to be left out, the appearance of two newcomers rising in the entertainment industry, Sharifah Rose and Hariz Hamdan and actor Fahrin Ahmad as moderator.
The forum launch ceremony was completed by Finas Chairman, Senator Datuk Seri Zurainah Musa. Also present were the President of WHAM, Datuk Tengku Khalidah Tengku Bidin and the Producer of A Aida Production, Datuk A Aida.
The average panelist who was invited agreed that good looks should go hand in hand with talent in the mission to become a great actor on the acting stage.
According to Prof Md Nasir, the selection of beautiful actresses for the main characters has been practiced since long ago.
“Among the beautiful actresses in the past are Seniwati Maria Menado, Zaiton and Roseyatimah. The selection of beautiful and handsome actors is necessary for the hero role.
However, the selection of the main actress is also made through an audition and not just for beauty alone.
“There are also actors who inherited acting talent from family members such as Noor Kumalasari and Fauziah Datuk Ahmad Daud,” he said.
Md Nasir said again, not only looks and talent but the attitude of an actor also plays an important role in being a good actor.
“In my observation, actors in the past, their relationship was as close as brothers and sisters and they lived in the same quarters during the Shaw Brothers era.
“Actors used to also take great care of the aspect of discipline because attitude plays an important role in being successful in the field of acting. Unlike the new actors of today who are arrogant.
“As new actors, they can polish their acting talent by gaining knowledge with those who are more experienced,” he said.
