Of course Malaysia should be proud of Michelle Yeoh, said the Singapore PM’s wife
SINGAPORE: WHEN a few criticized Malaysia for not taking credit for Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh’s success at the 95th Academy Awards (Oscars 2023) event last Monday, Ho Ching who is the wife of the Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Hsein Loong, thought otherwise.
Ho Ching said, the neighboring country has long recognized Michelle’s great contribution in the global art arena to the point of awarding the second highest title at the Federal level, Tan Sri, by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
The former Chief Executive Officer of Temasek Holdings said this in reaction to an article published on a Singaporean portal which claimed that Malaysia should not think that the country contributed to Michelle’s success.
“Of course Malaysia should be proud of Michelle Yeoh, even they (Malaysian government) have already recognized her by awarding (the title of) Tan Sri before she won the Oscar,” said Ho Ching in a post on her Facebook account.
Michelle, an artist born in Ipoh, Perak made history when she was crowned as the winner of the Best Female Film Actress trophy at the 2023 Oscars which took place last Monday.

She was chosen as the winner of that category through his excellent acting in the movie Everything Everywhere All at Once .
In the same development, Ho Ching said, Michelle has also contributed in various fields in addition to triggering community awareness regarding many beneficial works.
“She is a United Nations Development Program Ambassador whose job is to raise awareness as well as organize support for the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
“She was present and spoke for good,” said Ho Ching again.
In the same message, Ho Ching congratulated Michelle and expressed the hope that the 60-year-old actress would achieve many more successes in the future.
