Nearly 5,000 units of Bitcoin were confiscated by the police
MANJUNG: A total of 4,939 units of bitcoin machines were confiscated during the Bitcoin Operation conducted by the Manjung District Police Headquarters (IPD) from January 2021 until now.
Manjung District Police Chief ACP Nor Omar Sappi said the seizure was carried out in a joint operation with the Special Engagement Against Losses or SEAL Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) unit in Manjung.
According to him, 22 individuals were also arrested for being involved in Bitcoin mining activities by using electricity stolen from TNB’s electricity supply line during that period.
“We have conducted 49 raids last year and this year until September, 68 raids have been successfully conducted, last year we arrested 18 people and this year four people.
“All cases are being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code and 37 (1) of the Electricity Supply Act 1990 for stealing electricity and treachery against TNB’s property,” he said in a statement on Friday.
Nor Omar said his party will carry out operations continuously and fight electricity theft activities in the Manjung district.
