National Day 2022: Malaysian families show strong spirit together

KUALA LUMPUR: The harmony of the Malaysian Family and excitement was evident on the faces of thousands of individuals of various ages, races and backgrounds who flooded Dataran Merdeka, together to celebrate National Day 2022.

Manifestation of the theme ‘Malaysian Family Strong Together’, the celebration of this year’s historic day is quite meaningful in expressing the gratitude and sense of pride of this country’s diverse community who gathered in large numbers at the main location of the parade and parade as early as 4.30am to witness the event.

Seas of people including foreign tourists took the opportunity to appreciate the celebration theme by displaying the spirit of patriotism, togetherness and unity enlivening the colorful and large-scale national celebration event.

After two years celebrated in the environment of the new norm due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the parade and parade event by almost 20,000 participants of various contingents this year was held brilliantly showcasing the components of statehood, the front line, national governance, public order, national security, the Family component Malaysia and air show.

The celebration event involving a total of 369 land assets and 68 air assets as well as 76 animals in service, was also broadcast live on television screens and social media sites, the public was treated to patriotic songs, accompanied by the RTM Orchestra led by Datuk Mokhzani Ismail, who first time involved in the historic event.

The official arrival of dignitaries and national leaders started at 7.30am followed by the arrival of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and the King Queen Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandaria, who rode in the Royal Horse Carriage , a unique appearance different from the prevalence of previous years.

The Royal Horse Carriage was last used 17 years ago when the then Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail went to attend the 2005 National Day celebration.

Immediately after the departure of Al-Sultan Abdullah and Tunku Azizah on the royal stage, five helicopters flew over accompanied by the singing of the Negaraku national anthem.

His Majesty then received the Royal Salute and agreed to inspect the Main Guard of Honor from the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Soldier Regiment consisting of four officers and 103 members led by Major Nurul Fauzan Md Sabri.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, four senior ministers and Cabinet ministers including Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa, foreign diplomats and representatives and dignitaries attended the historic day celebration.

Preceding the 2022 National Day celebration is the singing of the Negaraku song along with the raising of the Jalur Gemilang. At the same time, 14 shots of honor, symbolic of the 14 states in Malaysia, were fired by 41 Ceremonial Battery of the Royal Artillery Regiment led by Lt Col Mohamad Asri Che Wil.

The event would not be complete without the reading of the Rukun Negara pledge, the country’s young sprinter, Muhammad Azeem Mohd Fahmi, who is the national record holder in the 100 meter event, led 65 pledge readers of various races, thus highlighting the element of inclusivity.

After reciting the pledge, the sacred cry of ‘Merdeka’ echoed seven times in Dataran Merdeka.

At this celebration, the audience was presented with a special color guard performance ‘Malaysian Family Strong Together’ by 600 high school students under the coordination of the Pupil Talent Development Unit, Pupil Development Sector of the Selangor State Education Department.

Leading the national segment was a contingent of 24.3 meter x 12.2 meter flag bearers by 60 cadet officers of the Military Training Academy, National Defense University of Malaysia (UPNM) and trainee cadets from the Royal Malaysian Police Training Center.

It was followed by a procession of 330 Jalur Gemilang bearers and state flag bearers.

To illustrate the synergistic agreement in the delivery of Malaysian public services, 27 ministries and departments from the general service sector, economy, industry, security, infrastructure, public and social facilities joined the ministry’s contingent.

Also attracting attention, the parade of the Malaysian Chefs Association contingent led by President Khairuddin Kamarudin. Tunku Azizah is the patron of this association which was established in 1977 with the objective of uniting culinary professionals as well as creating relationships between industry players and professional collaboration.

The parade was then enlivened by the Malaysian Family Merdeka Adventure Convoy led by Sabri Said, involving five units of four-wheel drive vehicles from the Malaysian Information Department and 65 high-powered BMW K16 motorcycles.

The field of sports, which is a unifying element of Malaysians, does not miss out on making an appearance. Malaysian athletes including those representing the country at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games boarded two ‘ hop-on hop-off ‘ buses receiving thunderous applause from the audience.

Making this year’s celebration even more exciting is the parade of 30 classic vehicles carrying celebrities and art workers, among them film director Datuk Yusof Haslam and the personalities of the blockbuster film ‘Mat Kilau’, Datuk Jalaluddin Hassan and Shaharuddin Thamby.

In the public order segment, the frontline contingent attracted a lot of attention when they also lined up health workers from the Ministry of Health as well as security workers from the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) who are the country’s main pillar when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country.

For the national security segment, the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) started the parade with a demonstration of rescuing hostages by the elite force, the Special Operations Group, together with ATM’s assets.

National security contingent aircraft assets were displayed in the airspace, including the two largest transport aircraft types A400M and C-130 Hercules belonging to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).

For the first time, Kuala Lumpur’s airspace was rocked with a performance of a mega formation flying across the air lined up with 21 helicopters from various ATM agencies, the Police, the Fire and Rescue Department and the Maritime Enforcement Agency.

The theme song ‘Keluarga Malaysia’ composed by Jerry and lyrics by Annuar, who is also the Chairman of the National Day Celebration and Malaysia Day 2022 Steering Committee, concluded the celebration performance that mesmerized the audience.
