Mydin expands Rahmah Menu to the whole country

KUALA LUMPUR: Mydin Mohamed Holdings Berhad (Mydin) is committed to expanding the Rahmah Menu Program to all its branches nationwide.

Mydin Managing Director Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin said that although the cost of raw materials in Sabah and Sarawak is higher than in the peninsula, he is still determined to offer food menus under RM5 nationwide.

“As we know the cost of raw materials in Sabah and Sarawak is more expensive. For example in Mydin Sandakan, the price of one kilogram (kg) of raw chicken is RM12 compared to the peninsula where the price is RM9.40.

“We (Mydin) promised to make Rahmah Menu today or tomorrow in Sandakan and two (Mydin) branches in Kuching, so that consumers in Sabah and Sarawak don’t miss the Rahmah Menu which costs RM4.90,” he said in the Exclusive Interview Program titled ‘Rahmah Menu Initiative’ on Bernama Radio today.

Last Tuesday, the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub launched the Rahmah Menu initiative which covers lunch and dinner at the price of RM5 each at nearly 15,000 food premises nationwide.

Meanwhile, Ameer Ali said that in line with the program, his side also offers a breakfast menu with 10 varieties of food for as low as RM2.50.

“We (Mydin) are now also introducing a breakfast menu, customers can choose 10 different dishes for the price of RM2.50, and we also maintain the spices used so that the taste remains the same, and we have to be fair,” he said.

Meanwhile, he is of the view that the program is suitable to be implemented by small stall traders since they have lower overhead costs compared to restaurant traders.

“For example, an Indian Muslim restaurant has to pay a rent of RM20,000, but for a small stall trader may only have to pay a license or rent to the Local Authority and so on in RM100 to RM200.

“According to the calculation, the cost of raw chicken for one kg is worth RM9.40, if divided into eight parts it will be RM2.25, rice RM0.50, vegetables RM0.50 and O iced tea RM0.50 so all in all around RM4. We sell for RM5, we will get 20 percent profit,” he said.

In addition, Ameer said the implementation of the Rahmah Menu can provide marketing benefits for a company while also helping to ease the burden of the people.
