Muzika Esktravaganza concert proves the close relationship between Malaysia and Singapore

KUALA LUMPUR: The Muzika Ekstravaganza concert, which will take place this Saturday, proves how close the relationship is between Malaysia and Singapore, said Minister of Communications and Digital.

He said the program was the closing event for the organization of the Sixth Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) in the field of Information and Communication for both countries with Malaysia as the host this time.

“… (this concert) almost every year either in Singapore or in Malaysia. This year, in conjunction with the meeting that will be held, we will celebrate the presence of our friends from Singapore by holding a Muzika Ekstravaganza concert.

“I hope that all the viewers will be able to witness live and that we will both enjoy the talent from Malaysia and Singapore… a close relationship will help us generate economic growth thus achieving a brighter and better future for each country,” he said .

The Muzika Ekstravaganza concert will be held at 8.30pm at the Perdana Auditorium, Angkasapuri, here which will be broadcast live through two stations namely TV2 (RTM) and Suria (Mediacorp) as well as online through RTMKlik (RTM) and TOGGLE (Mediacorp).

The theme of the concert this time is Duo Hits with a combination of popular artists from both countries such as Nabila Huda, Stacy, Hazama, Hael Husaini as well as rock veteran, Datuk Ramli Sarip who is a Singaporean artist, however, migrated to Malaysia.

Meanwhile, speaking about the committee meeting scheduled for this Saturday afternoon, Fahmi said, the focus of the discussion was on the direction of the Malaysia-Singapore Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in cooperation in the fields of personal data protection, cyber security and the digital economy that was signed last Monday at the republic.

“We cannot deny, nowadays we are faced with not only a digital economy that is expanding in all countries but there are risks such as the issue of ‘ scam ‘ (fraud) and personal data… so cooperation between these two countries is very important.

“In Kulai and Sedenak, Johor, there are several data processing centers and we see that many will be in Malaysia. So in that sense, how can these assets which are investments from foreign companies be utilized in our country with the cooperation of Singapore. So this is one of the things we will discuss in this meeting,” he said.

On 19 Feb 2016, Malaysia and Singapore signed a MoU on cooperation in the field of information and communication and agreed to implement JCM between the two countries on a rotating basis.

The program is held regularly and becomes an annual program with the host chosen in turn.
