Musk says Twitter starting to purge inactive accounts
Twitter starts deleting inactive accounts
Criteria for determining removal still unclear
Elon Musk’s decision to purge inactive Twitter accounts comes as his helming of the social media firm enters its seven tumultuous month.
WASHINGTON: Twitter is in the process of deleting old accounts that have been idle for several years, owner Elon Musk said on Monday.
“We are deleting accounts that have not been active for several years, so you may see a decrease in the number of followers,” Anadolu Agency (AA) reported, quoting Musk.
The criteria to determine the cleaning of a user’s account, however, are still unclear.
Twitter’s inactive account policy says users should log in at least once every 30 days, but it’s unclear if that’s the policy the company will use to determine whether an account will be deleted.
Musk’s decision to dispose of the inactive account comes as he heads Twitter into his seventh month after buying the company for US$44 billion last October.
