Murder charges against actor Alec Baldwin dropped

Charges against Alec Baldwin in the alleged involuntary manslaughter of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust have been dropped, the Hollywood actor’s lawyer has said.

“We welcome the decision to withdraw the case against Alec Baldwin and we welcome a thorough investigation into the facts of this tragic accident,” Baldwin’s attorneys, Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro, said in a statement released Thursday.

New Mexico’s First District Attorney’s Office, Mary Carmack-Altwies, however, declined to comment on the matter to NBC News .

According to the portal’s report, what is also unclear is whether the charges against Hannah Gutierrez-Reed who is the gun manager in the movie Rust will continue or otherwise.

Hutchins, 42, was shot dead on October 21, 2021 while filming the movie at Bonanza Creek Ranch, New Mexico.

Baldwin was practicing with a gun for a certain scene before the gun went off and shot Hutchins and injured the film’s director, Joel Souza.

The trial of the case against Baldwin, 64, was marred by controversy from the start, especially when prosecutor Andrea Reeb was forced to resign following allegations of a conflict of interest by the defense team.

The news of the charges being dropped against Baldwin was announced on the same day as a reshoot of the movie Rust at Yellowstone Ranch, Montana.

The film is expected to require at least another 20 days of shooting and Baldwin was reportedly on location on Thursday.
