MOTAC targets 126 events this year to generate a return of RM734 million

SIMUNJAN: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) through the Malaysian Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) aims to organize 126 business events throughout this year that are capable of providing returns worth RM734 million to restore the country’s tourism sector.

Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said under this effort, the ministry has approved 141 applications for Tourism Sector Matching Grants (GSSP) and 167 applications for Cultural Sector Matching Grants (GSSK) to date which are worth RM20.5 million and RM20.75 million respectively.

“Actually, there are still many people who want to apply for this grant, but all the allocations have been used. We do not prohibit anyone from continuing to apply, they just have to be patient for the grant application to be approved next year.

“In addition, a total of 23 tourism events and programs with a value of (aid) RM1 million and 29 ‘voluntourism’ events and programs (volunteer tourism) throughout the country are provided,” she said when speaking at the Launching Ceremony of the New Voluntourism Logo at Padang Sentral here yesterday .

Taking the example of organizing the Simunjan Voluntourism and Cultural Program 2022, Nancy said it can benefit the economy of many parties, especially among local citizens.

Nancy said as of Friday, the voluntourism program implemented by MOTAC since September 2012 has involved the registration of 14,165 volunteers covering various ages and backgrounds.

“Previously this voluntourism program was known as 1Malaysia Voluntourism which was developed through the seventh initiative under the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS7 – Voluntourism).

“MOTAC has rebranded and breathed new life into the existing voluntourism program by reorganizing the main core and a new logo,” she added.
