Miss Universe changes the rules, will allow all adult women to compete

The Miss Universe ORGANIZATION has announced that adult women of all ages will soon be allowed to compete.

Miss Universe 2022 winner R’Bonney Gabriel announced the update at New York Fashion Week on Tuesday, Women’s Wear Daily reported.

The renewal will officially take place in 2024, according to a brief statement shared on the Miss Universe Instagram account.

“Starting in 2024, all adult women will be eligible to compete for the title of Miss Universe,” they wrote.

The age limit for the contestants was previously 18 to 28 years. Gabriel is the oldest contestant to be crowned Miss Universe, when she was 28 years old.

The decision to no longer place an age limit on Miss Universe contestants is among the latest changes made by the organization.

Starting in 2022, the organization will allow mothers and married women to compete.

In 2012, Miss Universe ended its ban on transgender contestants.
