Microsoft will lay off 11,000 employees

Microsoft has 221,000 full-time employees including 122,000 employees in the United States and 99,000 others worldwide based on data up to June 30, 2022.

LOS ANGELES: Microsoft technology company will reportedly lay off 11,000 employees in various departments starting early 2023.

Citing Reuters, Sky News reported that Microsoft plans to cut around five percent of its workforce, equivalent to an estimated 11,000 people ranging from human resources to engineering.

“From a big-picture perspective, the pending layoffs at Microsoft indicate the environment is not improving and will likely continue to deteriorate,” said Morningstar analyst Dan Romanoff.

Additionally, Insider reports Microsoft will cut a third of its workforce.

Currently, the conglomerate has 221,000 full-time employees including 122,000 employees in the United States (US) and 99,000 others worldwide based on data up to June 30, 2022.

If true, this termination will be a continuation of the previous termination process.

Previously, Microsoft Corp laid off about 1,000 workers in October last year and this policy, at once, affects less than one percent of the company’s total workforce.

“Like any other company, we evaluate our business priorities on a regular basis and make structural adjustments as appropriate,” a Microsoft spokesperson said.

In July 2022, Microsoft laid off a small number of employees a few days after the software maker started the 2023 fiscal year, due to structural changes.

The number of workers laid off is less than one percent of the total workforce.

Microsoft also implemented layoffs in 2017 after the start of the new fiscal year in which the company cut thousands of jobs in line with sales.
