Mentega Terbang director threatened, police opened investigation papers

SHAH ALAM: The police received two reports from the director and screenwriter of the film Mentega Terbang who claimed to have received threatening notes in addition to vehicles being splattered with paint.

Selangor Police Chief, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said, both of these incidents happened on the same day on Thursday involving two individuals.

According to him, the first incident happened at the open parking lot in Taman Dagang Jaya, Ampang at about 6.30am where the complainant’s Proton Saga car was splashed with paint.

“In addition, a sheet of note paper was also found that was left near the complainant’s car with written words that contained criminal threats against the complainant’s life.

“The Criminal Investigation Division of the Ampang Jaya District Police Headquarters (IPD) has opened investigation papers under Sections 507 and 427 of the Penal Code,” he said in a statement on Friday.

Hussein added, the second incident happened at about 3.15am in Kajang where the film crew’s vehicle was thrown with transparent plastic filled with liquid paint.

He said, a white envelope was also found with words containing criminal threats against the complainant’s life.

“In addition to that, the complainant also received a message by phone that contained criminal threats against himself and the complainant’s family,” he said.

He explained that the IPD Kajang Criminal Investigation Division has also opened investigation papers under Section 507 and Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing treachery and criminal threats through calls and if convicted, the suspect can be sentenced to up to seven years in prison or a fine or both.

“Section 427 of the Penal Code carries a prison sentence of up to two years or with a fine or with both,” he said.

He added that the public is advised not to make any speculations that could affect the harmony and peace of the country.

“The police take this incident seriously and will investigate until those involved are caught and brought to justice.

“The police also remind the public not to take any action or act that violates the law,” he said.

Therefore, the police ask the public who have any further information related to the two incidents involved to come forward by contacting any of the nearest police stations or directly contact the Investigating Officer of the case which is Inspector Mu’az Mazlan at 017-9788804 (IPD Kajang) and Inspector Alif called 018-9834211 (IPD Ampang) to assist with the investigation.
