‘Mentega Butter’ film : Police open investigation papers
KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has opened an investigation into the controversial film Mentega Terbang after receiving eight police reports.
According to the Malaysian Police Secretary (SUPM) of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin, the case is being investigated by the Classified Crime Investigation Unit (USJT), D5 Bukit Aman under Section 298A CC, Section 505 (b) CC and Section 233 AKMM 1998 .
“The case is still under investigation by USJT and any developments will be informed later,” he said in a statement.
Since last week, the film Mentega Terbang directed by young director, Khairil Anwar, has gone viral after being criticized for containing scenes allegedly mocking Islam and touching the sensitivities of Muslims.
The one-hour and 45-minute film became a hot topic because it contains scenes of a father who is open-minded when he does not prevent his son from choosing a religion, where the act is against Islam.
The film produced by the company Meng Kheng Entertainment, which was shown on January 19 through an online streaming application, caused various reactions including criticism from netizens.
Therefore, various parties came forward to make a report urging the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Mohd. Na’im Mokhtar and the Minister of Communications and Digital took strict action against the publisher.
