Mechamato received the Anime Fan Award in Tokyo
KUALA LUMPUR: The film Mechamato produced by local company Animonsta Studios (Monsta), which made its own history as the first animation from outside Japan to win the Anime Fan Award, received the award today at the Tokyo Anime Awards Festival (TAAF) 2023.
Monsta said in a statement that Mechamato deserved to receive the award after it was well received when it was shown on Cartoon Network and Netflix Japan last year.
Monsta’s Chief Creative Officer Anas Abdul Aziz received the award wearing a light blue Malay shirt representing the company at a ceremony held in Tokyo over four days from March 10 to 13.
Through a tweet on his Twitter account, Anas expressed his gratitude and appreciation to those who voted for Mechamato.
“Alhamdulillah. Thank you to every fan who is willing to vote for us from all over the Asia Pacific Region. We will continue to work hard and bring AniMY (Malaysian animation) to new destinations and at the same time, also export our culture,” he said.
The statement said Monsta was honored to receive recognition from Japan, which is known for its great animation industry where Mechamato was able to capture the hearts of the country’s audience, especially among children and families.
Commenting on Monsta’s future plans to expand the animated series in Japan, Anas said Mechamato Season Two has completed the dubbing process for the broadcast schedule in the country while Mechamato Season Three is in production.
Mechamato is currently at the top of the local animated film category and is being screened in Indonesian and Singaporean cinema chains as it has been fully dubbed into English.
Previously, the Anime Fan Award was won by several iconic films such as Idolish Seven in 2021 and 2022, Uta no Prince-sama in 2020 and Yuri!!! On ICE in 2018 and 2017.
