MDEC ended MWC 2023 mission in Barcelona which was fruitful
BARCELONA : The Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), which represents the Malaysian government to explore potential collaborations to advance the digital economy, completed a fruitful mission at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 here.
MDEC Chief Executive Officer Mahadhir Aziz said the agency participated in bilateral discourse and negotiations with several leading global industry participants who showed interest in investing in the country.
“The idea is to look at potential companies for us to work with and eventually come to Malaysia and invest in some areas based on telecommunication and digital technology.
“One aspect that we are investing a lot in and actively looking for cooperation is 5G applications that can take advantage of the 5G infrastructure, which is developing rapidly in Malaysia,” he told Bernama on the sidelines of the MWC 2023 event here.
On 27 February, MDEC signed a memorandum of understanding with the Groupe Speciale Mobile Association (GSMA) to encourage the development of 5G applications that leverage use cases and the connectivity of the digital ecosystem in Malaysia.
Mahadhir said apart from GSMA, MDEC has been active in discussions through its strategic partners, especially from the Malaysian Spanish Chamber of Commerce, La Camara.
“We see Spanish companies growing from Barcelona’s technology ecosystem that can be transferred to Malaysia in terms of technology solutions between the two countries,” he said.
According to Mahadhir, MDEC also engaged with more than 20 technology companies from Spain and Canada through a round table discussion to review further cooperation in the field of technological advancement.
“We have also held discussions with Meta and Facebook, Google, and Ericsson who are among the main participants at MWC 2023, who intend to expand their investments towards specific areas in the digital economy.
“The idea is for us to seek digital inclusion, bringing the collaboration of many compatible ecosystems together to Malaysia,” said Mahadhir.
