Body says it has met management officials to get explanation
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission says that an investigation paper will be opened under Section 206 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 on compliance with licence conditions.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) opened investigation papers under Section 206 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (AKM) 1998 to investigate a report issued by the television station, Awesome TV .
MCMC’s Corporate Communications Department announced an investigation into the television station’s failure to comply with license conditions following reports of a proposal to reduce the number of civil servants.
In a statement, MCMC informed that the investigation papers will be submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further decisions.
According to MCMC, if convicted, the offender can be punished as provided under Section 242 which is a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or imprisonment for a period not exceeding two years or both.
MCMC also emphasizes taking user complaints seriously and is committed to improving the compliance level of Individual Content Application Service Provider (CASP-I) license holders.
“It is so that the content broadcast reflects the culture, identity and norms of society in accordance with the 1998 AKM and the Content Code,” he explained.
He said that every complaint received will be examined based on the provisions of the 1998 AKM, related regulations under it and in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) set.
