MCMC signed a collaboration with UniKL, MBOT, Malaysian Nuclear Agency to develop the country’s digital talent
CYBERJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) today signed and exchanged cooperation documents with several local and global institutions namely the University of Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), the Malaysian Board of Technology (MBOT) and the Malaysian Nuclear Agency, in an effort to realize digital talent development and empowerment. digital economy through strategic collaboration.
The ceremony to sign the cooperation document which was witnessed by MCMC’s Chief Operating Officer, Dato’ Mohd Ali Hanafiah Mohd Yunus reflects MCMC’s commitment in increasing the development of talent and ability to meet the capacity of the country’s communications and multimedia industry.
Under the collaboration with UniKL, the collaboration will be carried out through a micro credential development program that will provide opportunities for adults, especially workers, to add value to their skills in order to remain relevant in their respective careers.
Meanwhile, collaboration with MBOT and the Malaysian Nuclear Agency focuses on developing certification programs related to technology, especially in telecommunications and broadcasting, cyber security, computing and Radio Frequency Electromagnetic Fields (RF-EMF).
In an effort to ensure that more Malaysians have access to digital skills training, MCMC also entered into a partnership with Google to provide scholarships for those who are less able to undergo a course and obtain a Google Career Certificate at the Malaysian Family Digital Economy Center (PEDi). Courses provided include IT Support, IT Automation, Data Analysis, UX Design, Project Management or Digital Marketing and E-commerce. After completing the courses, they will get a Google Career Certificate at the Malaysian Family Digital Economy Center (PEDi). With the existence of the Google Career Certificate, it also gives the group the opportunity to apply for a job through the Employer Consortium by Google.
At the same ceremony, Dato’ Mohd Ali Hanafiah also announced the awarding of DSRG to nine (9) recipients for the first cycle of 2022. All nine (9) award recipients were selected from 183 grant applicants who went through a strict selection process. The findings from the study conducted by the DSRG awardees are able to provide valuable input to MCMC in carrying out its responsibilities more accurately.
Since 2008, MCMC has awarded research grants involving funds totaling RM3.8 million and so far, the initiative has resulted in a total of 56 research projects. MCMC’s concern in this matter is also evident when the Commission has committed to continue allocating at least RM200,000 per year for research grants.
In conjunction with the DSRG Grant awarding ceremony, a symposium themed: Towards a More Inclusive Malaysia: Research Perspectives on the Implications of Digital Communication on Society was also organized and became a platform for academics and other stakeholders to discuss research topics that can be utilized by all including the university, government agencies and students.
