MCMC plans to create 177 new PEDi – Mohammad

TAWAU: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM) is planning to create 177 new Malaysian Family Digital Economy Centers (PEDi) in areas of the State Legislative Assembly that do not yet have such centers.

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (K-KOMM) Datuk Seri Mohammad Mentek said so far there are 911 PEDi throughout Malaysia, which are centers that can help give a new boost to the people’s economy.

“It is the desire of the ministry, especially the Minister (Minister of Communications and Multimedia Tan Sri Annuar Musa) to establish this PEDi, to enable all communities to benefit from the facilities provided at the center.

“This PEDi is to train small and medium-sized entrepreneurs, people only need to pay RM5 once in their lifetime, we also put teaching staff from various agencies under K-KOMM to assist with advisory services,” he told reporters here after visiting the PEDi at Taman Sri Titingan here today.

Mohammad today began an official working visit to Tawau, Semporna, Lahad Datu and Kunak until Oct 3.

In the meantime, Mohammad urged the community to take advantage of the PEDi in their respective areas, to learn and increase the family’s source of income.

“At PEDi they can learn about information and communication technology, how to use computers, use social media such as Twitter, Instagram, including (learning) product marketing strategies online.

“It is proven that there are entrepreneurs who take advantage of this PEDi and start businesses on the e-commerce platform, successfully generating multiple and high incomes,” he added.

Meanwhile, he hopes the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) will consider K-KOMM’s application for proposals to upgrade buildings, including improving building security as well as the construction of new buildings, involving agencies under the ministry.

“We have presented to the EPU, this is not only for offices including quarters, for example the quarters in RTM Tawau which are quite poor, we hope the application can be considered, preferably for next year in addition to the proposal to build an RTM building in Penang,” he said.
