MCMC is committed to the realization of the government’s desire to drive the digital economy
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will continue to be committed to strengthening connectivity and strengthening the digital ecosystem in driving the country’s digital economy.
In a statement, the agency welcomed the mandate of the Minister of Communications and Digital, Fahmi Fadzil who will prioritize Internet facilities for the people and realize the Golden Decade of the Digital Economy following the presentation of Budget 2023 on Friday.
This includes the National Digital Interconnection Plan (JENDELA), the implementation of 5G, the Internet access initiative in the People’s Housing Program (PPR), the empowerment of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through the Digital Economy Center (PEDi), the allocation of the SME Digitization Grant Scheme and efforts to combat scams through National Scam Response Center (NSRC).
5G network development efforts are underway across the country, and have surpassed the initial target of 50 percent and are targeted to increase to 80 percent by the end of the year.
The Malaysian Family Digital Economy Center (PEDi) will continue to empower small traders with the help of ICT and e-Commerce knowledge, with one PEDi targeted in each DUN area.
Meanwhile, the matching grant initiative of up to RM5,000 jointly spearheaded by Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), will be enjoyed by SMEs that subscribe to business digitization applications such as POS sales systems, accounting or inventory management.
In the meantime, SKMM will also cooperate in strengthening the role of the National Scam Response Center (NSRC) in an effort to deal with scam problems. It will also involve collaboration with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), MCMC and the National Financial Crime Prevention Center (NFCC).
