Matta Fair 2023 targets sales of RM400 million, 250,000 visitors

52nd edition of Malaysia’s largest consumer travel event to run from Mar 17-19

Among the participants in the Matta Fair 2023 are tour and travel agencies, national tourism offices, state government tourism offices, hotels and resorts, theme parks, airline and cruise operators, and other travel-related services and organisations.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Matta Exhibition 2023 this March will be the biggest event since it was established and is expected to generate sales of RM400 million with a target of 250,000 visitors, said the Malaysian Association of Travel and Tourism Agents (Matta).

Organizer Chairman Rocky Kho said they expect the largest number of visitors at the exhibition this year, more than the previous record of 113,685 visitors in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The exhibition will cover the entire facility, covering all three exhibition floors and will fill more than 37,000 meters (398,264 square feet) of space allowing exhibitors to display their products. This Matta exhibition will set a new record in terms of size,” Kho said. at a press conference at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Center (Mitec), here, today.

He said, currently, 1,313 stalls have been booked and he expects more to register.

Saudi Arabia, which is a new tourist destination, is one of the highlights of this year’s exhibition, he said.

“Saudi Arabia is a participant that will be involved in this exhibition. It is now one of our preferred destinations to visit.

“It is a destination not only for Muslims and a destination for Umrah and Hajj, but it is now a destination for everyone, including non-Muslims,” ​​he said.

Kho said Malaysia was chosen by Saudi Arabia as one of the few special countries that are offered multiple entry tourist visas that are valid for one year.

“Malaysians should not miss the opportunity to take advantage (of the visas offered),” he said.

Among the participants of the Matta Exhibition 2023 are travel agencies, national tourism offices, state government tourism offices, hotels and resorts, theme parks, airlines and cruise operators, as well as other travel-related services and organizations.

“We also have an umrah section. Umrah operators licensed by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) will sell their umrah and hajj packages here, in addition to tourism and other services provided,” said Kho.

Meanwhile, Matta said, shuttle services for visitors will be provided at designated pick-up and drop-off points around Mitec, namely at Jalan Duta Bus Terminal, Kuala Lumpur Court Complex, Federal Territory Mosque, Miti Tower and MATRADE Tower.

“Other locations, especially those located near MRT stations, are being planned and will be announced at the appropriate time,” he said.

The 52nd edition of Malaysia’s largest consumer tourism exhibition will be held at Mitec on March 17-19 (Friday to Sunday), from 10am to 9pm with free entry.
