Marvel Studios releases new trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder
Thor, one of the last remaining original heroes of the MCU, is back – and has a superpowered ex and a God Butcher to deal with
EVEN though Doctor Strange continues to tear up the box office, Marvel (and Disney) are already beginning to crank up the promotional machine for Thor: Love and Thunder, coming to cinemas on July 7.
This is the first film centred around the Norse God of Thunder since 2017’s hugely successful Thor: Ragnarok. Thor Odinson of course featured prominently in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. In fact, with the loss of Steve Rogers, Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff, Thor is one of the last original Avengers still standing.
Chris Hemsworth has made no secret of how Ragnarok rejuvenated his love of the character, and much of that credit can be put at the feet of writer and director Taika Waititi – who also plays the lovably comedic rock alien Korg (who narrates the opening of the trailer). Waititi is back in charge with this sequel, which is readily apparent with its style and liberal use of colour.
Love and Thunder marks the return of Natalie Portman into the MCU, having been MIA in the MCU since 2013’s generally disliked Thor: The Dark World. Portman was reportedly unhappy being the girlfriend/damsel and has been rewarded with a superhero glow up as Mighty Thor.

While Thor and Foster try to come to terms with their aborted relationship and their newfound superpowered equality, a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (that’s ominous AF), who is out to wipe out all the gods of the cosmos. Played with menace by Christian Bale, who’s previous superhero outing was as Batman in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, expect some bloodshed in Love and Thunder.
Oh and Russell Crowe shows up as Zeus… with a Greek accent? I wonder how long he’s gonna last against a guy known as the God Butcher…
Find out when Thor: Love and Thunder hits the big screen on July 7.
