The former First Daughter will make her directing debut with a short film produced by Glover’s studio

Malia Obama has been working behind the scenes, earning the attention of rapper and filmmaker Donald Glover.

MALIA Obama, the eldest daughter of former United States President Barack Obama, might be making a move into filmmaking. As Donald Glover recently disclosed in an interview with GQ, the 24-year-old will make her directing debut with a short film produced by his studio, Gilga.

While specifics regarding the upcoming collaboration are still unclear, Glover, better known as stage name Childish Gambino, acknowledged the pressure that comes with Malia’s celebrity.

“The first thing we did was talk about the fact that she will only get to do this once. You’re [Barack] Obama’s daughter. So, if you make a bad film, it will follow you around,” he told the outlet.

However, Malia has some experience under her belt, having previously worked with Glover on his Amazon Prime Video series Swarm. The show follows the story of Dre, played by Dominique Fishback, whose obsession with a Beyoncé-like musician leads her down a dark path.

Malia worked in the show’s writer’s room, where she impressed her co-workers with her original ideas and commitment to her job.

“Some of her pitches were wild as hell, and they were just so good and so funny. She’s an incredible writer. She brought a lot to the table… She’s really, really dedicated to her craft,” Swarm co-creator Janine Nabers said of Malia in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

Glover also spoke highly of Malia’s abilities, stating that her writing style is great. “I feel like she’s just somebody who’s gonna have really good things coming soon,” he told Vanity Fair.

It’s evident that Malia is passionate about her work and is not looking for any special treatment just because of her high-profile background. “We can’t be easy on her just because she’s the [former] President’s daughter. Nah, she’s very down to earth, and cool. So, it’s not a problem at all,” Glover added.
