Malaysian storytellers, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf collaborate for festive season

Award-winning author Daryl Kho and acclaimed filmmaker Jared Lee to present book reading session and short film

KUALA LUMPUR – This holiday season, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Malaysia spreads the message of togetherness with two Malaysian storytellers while giving back to the community.

Book-reading with author Daryl Kho, in support of the Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation Malaysia

The beverage outlet will be hosting a very special book-reading session by Daryl Kho, award-winning Malaysian author of the bestselling children’s fantasy novel ‘Mist-Bound: How to Glue Back Grandpa’ on Saturday, December 17.

Inspired by his own personal experience with a loved one diagnosed with dementia, Daryl’s novel hopes to raise awareness for the disease and highlight the value of familial love in the face of it.

“The subject of dementia is a difficult one to broach, even for adults; and for children living with a loved one afflicted with the condition, it can be a perplexing and also upsetting experience,” said Fiona Rodrigues, head of Marketing & Innovation, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Malaysia.

She added, “Through his children’s novel ‘Mist-Bound: How to Glue Back Grandpa’, inspired by his own personal experience with a loved one being diagnosed with it, Kho manages to touch on the topic in a poignant, sensitive manner.

“We are privileged to have him join us for a very special book-reading session, and we hope to invite families from our community to explore the subject together.”

Holiday gift tags from the outlet, alongside a special-themed item inspired by the novel, will also be available for purchase. As part of its Caring Cup programme, 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation Malaysia (ADFM).

The donations will be used for ADFM’s dementia care skills training that equips caregivers and care workers with the knowledge and skills to provide quality and effective care for persons with dementia.

The book reading will take place from 11am to 1.30pm at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf @The Waterfront, Desa Park City. Members of the public are welcome to sign up and bring their loved ones along for the book reading by visiting https://bit.ly/3Hrswad.

A selection of food and drinks will also be served during the session.

First-ever short film by filmmaker Jared Lee, reminding us to celebrate togetherness this holiday season

The coffee shop has also worked with award-winning filmmaker Jared Lee of Grim Film to create its first-ever short film. It is centred around the spirit of family togetherness that has come to characterise the holiday season.

“We are also delighted to work with Jared Lee of Grim Film to tell our story of Togetherness this season, through our first-ever short film for the Holiday season,” said Rodrigues.

“As everyone basks in the festive lights and cheer that will no doubt be all around us this season, we wanted to make family a central theme in our storytelling – to remind everyone to take a little time out to spend with our loved ones.”
