
Malaysian singer Yuna praised for Spanish fluency, fans hope for Latin song
The singer talked about a wide range of topics with her fans on social media
YUNALIS Mat Zara’ai, 36, better known as Yuna, shared that she has been learning Spanish and hinted her interest in performing in Latin America.
In the short clip posted on Instagram, she said she has been learning for a month and proceeded to answer fan questions in Spanish. “Hi, good morning. Today, I want to practice speaking Spanish. It’s been 1 month [since] I’ve been learning Spanish, so ask me anything!”
In the post, she shared about her cats, and expressed her interest in performing in Mexico someday. In a humorous exchange, she asked her manager if that can be arranged, and he quips in Spanish, “I’m sorry”.
Many fans praised her for being able to quickly grasp of the language, and are eager to see her sing a Latin song.
“Omg, I love that Yuna is learning this Spanish, and is able to speak fluently even though she has only been learning this language for a month,” Instagram user @denissehrndz said.
Another user @heriznaga account said they hoped that Yuna could come to Mexico, and is waiting for a song in Spanish.
“Hello Yuna, your Spanish is fluent and good. I am a Spanish teacher, please contact me if Yuna wants to continue practicing this language. Hope there will be a Yuna song in Spanish,” said @mispasos account.
This was not the first time Yuna has flaunted her multilingual abilities. In a post shared to Facebook as far back as 2020, she performed a cover of ‘Avientame’ by Los Invasores de Nuevo Leon.
Yuna is one of the most popular contemporary Malaysian singers on the international stage, and has collaborated with musicians worldwide, like Usher, G-Eazy, and Pharell Williams.
Her breakout single ‘Crush’ peaked at number 3 at the US Billboard R&B chart. Her album, ‘Rouge,’ released in 2019 features a mix of R&B, pop, and soul music. The album received positive reviews from critics, who praised Yuna’s songwriting and the album’s diverse range of sounds.
In 2020, Yuna released a single called ‘Stay Where You Are’ which was well-received by her fans and was a commercial success. The song has been streamed millions of times on different platforms.
