Malaysian artist bags top award in LA
Harvard undergraduate Heerraa Ravindran, 23, was announced as the ICon Award Winner at ICMA on Sunday
LOS ANGELES – Malaysian-born artist Heerraa Ravindran won the ICon Award at the InterContinental Music Awards Competition 2022 (ICMA). She made the strongest impression on the Hollywood music executive judges at the event on Sunday morning.
It was a double win for Heerraa as her song ‘Feel Alive’ won the Best of North America under the Pop category, earlier in the ceremony. She won a US$1,000 prize, the ICMA Award Certificate signed and endorsed by InterContinental Music Awards Organisation.
She is entitled to private coaching with members of the judging panel.
“I am incredibly honoured and speechless because I never thought this would happen but I am so grateful for the opportunity. This is all possible because of my fans and my amazing team who have been supporting my mission of changing the world with music since day one.
“Thank you so much for believing in me and the power of my songs to impact people’s lives positively. I cannot wait to produce more life-changing music with you,” said the 23-year-old during the ICon Award acceptance speech.
Heerraa is also pursuing Bachelor of Liberal Arts at Harvard University.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, ICMA announced its winners through their online award ceremony at 12pm PDT, evaluating music entries from a global perspective. Judges include music gurus who have produced songs for singers like Selena Gomez, Westlife, Celine Dion and more.
Heerraa attributes her success to her mentors at ET Ideas. This Malaysian social business incubator helped turn her dream of being an international singer-songwriter into a reality when she was 14 years old.
Her songs hit international radios and digital platforms after winning the Gold Award for Best Female Single of the Year (International) at the International Singer-Songwriters Association (ISSA) Awards in Atlanta, Georgia last summer.
An advisor and co-founder of the international youth movement, Ascendance, Heerraa writes songs to inspire and change the world through her music. This year, Heerraa released six new songs which are now available on all streaming platforms.
