Malaysian achieves second highest ACCA exam result in world
UiTM student Safwa Zamri becomes top scorer nationwide at 98%
Safwa Zamri says her excellent results are because of her determination to do well, although she only took up accounting six months earlier
BESUT: A Quran memorizer or ‘hafizah’ achieved excellent results when she ranked second in the world in the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) examination for the session last March.
Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Dungun Campus student, Safwa Zamri, 19, received the Top ACCA Foundation in Accountancy (FIA) Prize for the ‘FA1-Records of Financial Transactions’ paper with a score of 98 percent, thus ranking first in Malaysia.
Safwa said she did not have the foundation of accounting studies because he took the stream of pure science and hafazan (religion) while studying at Imtiaz Besut Secondary School.
“I obtained 12 A results in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination and succeeded in memorizing 30 parts of the Quran when I was in the second form, which is after two years of memorizing the Quran.
“When I wanted to continue my studies at UiTM, my parents suggested that I choose the accounting department because it suited my abilities, besides my interest in mathematics,” she said.
“My four siblings graduated from medicine and engineering, so let’s have one in the accounting field,” said the youngest of the five siblings when met at his family home in Kampung Pengkalan Kubur near here.
The Terengganu Foundation-sponsored student said he was determined to get excellent results in the ACCA exam, even though ahe had only been studying accounting for six months.
“When I started studying accounts, I was a little stuck but I overcame it by regularly doing exercises and reviewing until I finally developed an interest in the field,” she said.
Safwa, who is the daughter of a teacher couple, Zamri Mohd Amin, 56, and Rashidah Ab Rahman, 57, excelled since primary school (Tembila National School) when she always got first place in her class.
“When he wants something (a lesson), he will try hard and be willing to stay up all night alone to review the lesson to ensure she can master a subject,” said Zamri.
