Malaysia, Singapore discuss the direction of personal data protection, cyber security and digital economy
PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia and Singapore today held a discussion on the direction of cooperation in the field of personal data protection, cyber security and the digital economy following the renewal of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the matter, on Jan 30.
The MoU was signed during Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s first official visit to Singapore, last Monday.
Communications and Digital Minister in a statement today said the MoU renewing cooperation between Malaysia and Singapore provides a platform for agencies in both countries to start deeper cooperation in the three areas concerned.
“Among the collaborations drawn up is the sharing of information and expertise as well as best practices between Malaysia and Singapore in dealing with the issue of online fraud more effectively and optimizing the use of data as a valuable commodity resource in the growth of the country’s digital economy,” he said.
Fahmi said this after a meeting with Singapore’s Minister of Communications and Information Josephine Teo in Putrajaya here.
Also present at the meeting were Singapore’s High Commissioner to Malaysia Vanu Gopala Menon, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Communications and Digital Datuk Seri Mohammad Mentek and Singapore’s Ministry of Communications and Information Permanent Secretary Joseph Leong.
Meanwhile, Fahmi also welcomed the willingness of his Singaporean counterpart and delegation to attend the Muzika Ekstravaganza concert hosted by Malaysia, tonight.
The concert jointly organized by Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) and MediaCorp Suria Singapura is the 14th concert which aims to raise the level of the music industry of both countries through the exchange of expertise and experience as well as the use of technology, in addition to giving exposure to the work culture between the two stations the broadcaster.
