Malaysia -Indonesia media cooperation cuts foreign news – Analyst
KUALA LUMPUR: Cooperation between Malaysian and Indonesian media institutions needs to be further strengthened in an effort to curb the influence of foreign media coverage, including in terms of culture, global issues and untrue news.
Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Shah Alam Political and Social Media Analyst, Associate Professor Sara Chinnasamy is of the view that the effort will not only benefit the people in both countries, but will also be able to raise the credibility of the mainstream media.
“So we don’t have to be influenced by foreign news and I think the issue of foreign news can be cut through Malaysian and Indonesian media cooperation, where the interpretation that will be made by the people in these two countries will be clearer on the information disseminated by the people in Indonesia and Malaysia. .
“I think this pruning of foreign news will probably be the main agenda that I see at the moment can make improvements in terms of foreign news,” she said.
Commenting further, Sara said the cooperation was also important in upholding justice and opinions on international issues, including issues involving foreign maids.
She added that journalism institutions in the country at the same time can learn the policy of reporting in Indonesia, and how the republic maintains the media landscape in the country.
However, she also acknowledged that the media industry faces digitalization challenges, especially the spread of fake news that needs special attention.
“So this will sow a lot of new algorithms where how can we curb the spread of fake news and at the same time we can uphold the credibility of the Malaysian and Indonesian mainstream media.
“I also look at it from the practical point of view of the media and the sustainability of the mainstream media … we can share opinions,” she added.
