Malaysia Day: Visitors are encouraged to wear traditional clothing, celebrate diversity
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian families who want to attend the celebration of Malaysia Day 2022 at Banda Hilir Declaration of Independence Memorial Square, Melaka, are encouraged to wear 50s, 60s era clothing or their respective traditional clothing.
The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (K-KOMM) Datuk Seri Mohammad Mentek said it was to celebrate the diversity and unification of Malaysia’s multi-racial community as well as recalling the country’s history of achieving independence and the formation of Malaysia.
“There we can see the diversity of races, and behind that diversity there is unity between races.
“This is one of the aspirations of the Malaysian Family which is Togetherness, Inclusion and Gratitude and by being grateful, it means that we can gather simultaneously from various races, nationalities and religions in one platform to celebrate Malaysia Day,” he said.
He said this in the Selamat Pagi Malaysia interview program published by Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) today.
According to Mohammad, the attendees will be entertained by performances by local artists such as Datuk Jamal Abdillah, Ernie Zakri, Jimmy Palikat and a re-enactment of the moments of the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj declaring the date of independence at the historic location.
Meanwhile, Mohammad, who is also the Chairman of the National Day and Malaysia Day 2022 Technical Committee, said preparations for the celebration on Sept 16 had reached almost 80 percent progress.
“I really hope that the event goes smoothly, we pray for good weather… I also want to encourage visitors to come not only from Melaka but from surrounding states such as Johor, Negeri Sembilan and so on,” he said.
