Malaysia Day: A musical concept performance recalling the nostalgia of the 60s era

KUALA LUMPUR: Visitors to the National Malaysia Day 2022 celebration on Sept 16 will have the opportunity to relive the nostalgia of the 60s through a musical concept performance at the Declaration of Independence Memorial Square, Banda Hilir in Melaka.

Director of the Cultural Arts Development Division of the National Department of Culture and Arts (JKKN) Rosnan Nordin said the musical concept performance related to the Peninsula, Sabah and Sarawak was also chosen to educate the public about historical events in those locations.

“The audience and guests will be dressed in 60s and ethnic fashion, we want (the public) to feel that era. Our performance also coincides and matches the audience’s clothing.

“For example, in our opening performance there are four segments, among which ‘Heroes Rise’ is to highlight heroes not only from the peninsula but also from Sabah and Sarawak,” he said in the Ruang Bicara program published by Bernama TV last night.

He said the stories of freedom fighters including Mat Kilau, Datuk Bahaman, Antanom, Mat Salleh, Rentap and Rosli Dhobi will be brought up through the segment in addition to featuring famous singer Datuk Jamal Abdillah who will sing the song ‘Mentera Semerah Padi’ and wear Malay warrior clothing.

Through this musical concept performance, Rosnan said the community can appreciate the history of the founding of the homeland more deeply and further apply patriotism and strengthen identity.

Melaka is the first state in the peninsula to be chosen as the host for the Malaysia Day celebration besides Sarawak and Sabah.

About 20,000 visitors are expected to enliven the celebration in addition to various activities and arts and cultural programs will also be held.
