Malaysia Day: 200 fishing boats participate in the decorated boat competition
BUKIT GANTANG: About 200 fishing boats took part in the decorated boat competition in Sungai Kerang, Bukit Gantang in conjunction with the Malaysia Day celebration on Friday.
They sacrificed not to go to sea today simply to liven up the celebration of Malaysia Day in addition to showing their respective patriotism.
Chairman of the Malaysian Fisheries Development Board (LKIM), Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal said the idea of holding the competition was because he did not want fishermen to feel marginalized from any national activities.
“As many as 200 small fishing boats decorated their boats with their own initiative, bought flags and spent time decorating their boats, they did not go to sea for two or three days, this is the sacrifice they made to be involved in this historic day, so we can see this event is very lively,” he said.
He was met at the celebration of Malaysia Day and the handing over of insulated fish barrels to fishermen in conjunction with Merdeka@Parlimen Year 2022 at Sungai Kerang Jetty, Sungai Tinggi, Bukit Gantang on Friday.

According to him, looking at the encouraging response from the fishing community, he intends to make the program an annual event.
At the same time, he said the program will also be included in the district’s tourism calendar to help increase the income of local fishermen.
