LANGKAWI: Alpecin-Deceuninck rider Sjoerd Bax won the seventh stage of Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) 2022 covering a distance of 107.1 kilometers (km) around Pekan Kuah here yesterday.

The Dutch rider was among the three sprinters who were far ahead of the peloton before first crossing the finish line with a time of 2 hours 20 minutes 52 seconds.

China Glory Continental Cycling Team’s Willem Jacobus Smit in second place while Adria Moreno Sala from the Burgos-BH team in third place was also given the same time record as Bax.

This success is also the third stage victory for Alpecin-Deceuninck after the fourth and fifth stages of the day.

“The team raced really well this week, we already got two wins and I know today is a good opportunity for me… the climb is a bit tough but to get a stage win is pretty cool,” he told reporters.

In the race involving three acceleration zones and two climbing zones, the Yellow Jersey (overall leader) remained worn by Ivan Ramiro Sosa Cuervo from Movistar Team.

The White Jersey (Asia’s best rider) also remains the property of Terengganu Polygon Cycling Team rider Jambaljamts Sainbayar while the Green Jersey (Raja Pecut) is worn by Erlend Blikra from the Uno-X Pro Cycling Team.

Today’s eighth stage covers a distance of 115.9 km also involving the same route in Pekan Kuah.
