Lenggong Valley is targeted to become a UNESCO Global Geopark site in two years

IPOH: The Lenggong Valley is expected to be recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark site in early 2024.

Member of Parliament for Lenggong, Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, said his party was optimistic about the target based on the planning and work being carried out.

“We have just received national recognition as a National Geopark site in December 2021.

“Because there are many features in Lenggong that are of international standard and meet the required criteria, the National Geopark Committee gave the initiative for us to go further.

“For that, of course, this committee will prepare the best proposal paper.

“In addition, we are discussing with the state government to draw up a plan to enable Lenggong to be recognized as the third UNESCO Global Geopark site in the country, after Langkawi and Kinabalu,” he said.

He commented on the development of the Lenggong Valley application status as a UNESCO Global Geopark site.

Shamsul Anuar was met by reporters at a press conference after the Launch Ceremony of the 48-12 Hour Ironbound Adventure 1 National Series Lenggong 2022 , here, yesterday.

Also present was the Chairman of the Housing, Local Government and Tourism Committee, Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi.

She who is also the Chairman of the Geocommunity Committee of Lenggong Geopark said that plans have been made to realize the wish and it will be implemented soon.

Previously the media reported that Lenggong was able to move forward in various sectors following recognition as a new National Geopark in addition to having a big impact on the people and the state of Perak.
