DAYANG Nurfaizah has paved a wide path to prove that classic Malay songs can be elevated to a very high position.

Even though today’s society is full of elements of progress, however, if the roots are not forgotten, the treasures of the past have a very bright future to preserve.

Such is the effort pioneered by the singer born in Kuching, Sarawak when he took on the task of giving new life to the rhythm that is not out of date in the rain and does not fade in the heat.

Dayang Nurfaizah & MPO: Belagu’s concert performance at the Petronas Philharmonic Hall (DFP) last weekend showed that Dayang’s efforts to foster love for the creations and songs of old singers among contemporary listeners are truly serious.

Who would have thought that the songs that are decades old give new translations that are fresh, however, without losing their charm and originality.

Dayang’s raspy voice blended in the musical arrangement with the talented musicians of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) really brought the audience swayed in the same emotion.

Dayang and the audience that night seemed to fly together to remember and pay respect to the classic Malay works.
Without making her popularity as an R&B singer a limitation, Dayang proves that where there’s a will, there’s a way.

Therefore, it is not surprising that the rhythms of bossanova, rumba and cha cha and classical rhythms are performed with care, but still captivating.

It turns out, extensive experience in the field of art that has spanned more than two decades arranged the Dayang vocals at a very consistent pace and position from the beginning to the end of the Dayang Nurfaizah & MPO Concert: Belagu.

The performance is based on the goal of bringing back the audience’s memory of the purity of Malay songs that once touched the emotions of a generation of listeners who grew up in the glory era of the country’s famous artists and artists such as the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee, the late Puan Sri Saloma, the late Tan Sri SM Salim , the late Datuk Ahmad Jais and many others.

Thus, the tune of 17 songs that were given new life by Dayang or her real name, Dayang Nurfaizah Awang Dowty felt very close to the listeners on that special night.

Tudung Peruk , Tari Tualang Tiga , Why I Miss You , From Heart To Heart , Since I Met You , Night I Dreamed , Remember Me In Your Prayer , Nak Dara Rindu and Gurindam Jiwa , for example, were sung beautifully.

“The song Dayang sang tonight was challenging because her emotions went up and down. But how do you want to do it, Dayang made the song arrangement herself” said Dayang sharing the story with the audience that filled DFP.

She also chose to present the songs Jauh Di Mata , Tak Seindah Wajah , Ketipang Payung and a new song called Rindu Menyapa created by Aubrey Suwito and lyrics written by Datuk Habsah Hassan which are all contained in the album Belagu II.

Dayang’s performance that night was accompanied by MPO musicians under the leadership of Ahmad Muriz Che Rose and Belagu and Belagu II album publisher, Aubrey Suwito.

At this time, Dayang no longer needed to be upset or worried about whether her efforts would be accepted by the community.

This is because the path she pioneered has started to show results.

Even though the number of people who came to watch the performance was not too big, however, the success of the concert and the album Belagu I and II can already be a high benchmark for reference by the music industry.

“Thank God for being given the opportunity to be with MPO. This is very valuable for Dayang.

“Dayang thought God’s arrangement was beautiful because after Dayang appeared with the album Belagu II, the offer to hold this concert arrived.

“Dayang was moved to see the response of the audience. Although tired, however, the reception given and seeing them entertained by singing and dancing together made Dayang more enthusiastic.

“Dayang sees the objective of introducing classical songs to the audience and wants them to appreciate it, it has been achieved,” said Dayang optimistically.
