Langkawi is recognized as one of the best islands in Southeast Asia

ALOR SETAR: Langkawi consists of a cluster of 99 islands off the coast of Kedah, successfully winning the international award ‘Asia Best Awards 2022’ and being recognized as one of the Best Islands in Southeast Asia recently.

Chief Executive Officer of the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) Nasaruddin Abdul Muttalib said the award proved his continued efforts and dedication, especially during the pandemic, when tourist arrivals to the island were at a less than satisfactory level.

He said the sweet success was also accompanied by good news when Four Seasons Resort Langkawi also received The Best Beach and Upcountry Hotel in Malaysia 2022 award.

“Despite facing various challenges, we remain optimistic and shoulder the responsibility to ensure this island is resilient in its journey towards recovery and remain a popular tourist destination,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

Nasaruddin said as a pioneering agency in the development of Langkawi tourism, LADA played an important role in making Langkawi the world-class tourist destination it is today.

Meanwhile, he said he expected the arrival of more international tourists to potentially revitalize the economy and stimulate the income of the local community.

“Our action plan includes promoting green concept tourism, creating experiences and being responsible, incentives such as duty-free shopping and creating attractive places for Instagram to ensure that we can maintain our position as one of the best islands in Southeast Asia,” he said.
