Kuih Kapit King Virallicious (King Virallicious Kapit cake) received an extraordinary response in the run-up to CNY

KUALA LANGAT: The arrival of the Year of the Rabbit in conjunction with the Chinese New Year (CNY), brought good luck to kapit cake maker, Kapit King Virallicious when her sales increased dramatically due to the extraordinary response received from customers.

Its entrepreneur Noraisah Ahmad, 41, said she started accepting orders for the cookies since last November and now, as many as 80,000 jars have been successfully sold nationwide.

She said that the sales of the cakes had doubled compared to the CNY celebration season in 2019, and during the period of the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw the sales of the cakes somewhat less encouraging.

“On normal days (outside the festive season), we are able to produce as many as 3,000 jars of kapit cakes a day.
“However, due to high demand from customers, we employed 10 part-time workers to assist the existing 15 workers to increase production to 4,000 jars a day,” she said.

Meanwhile, Noraisah said most of the Chinese customers bought the cakes wholesale for resale since the synonymous kapit cake is a must-have snack for guests in conjunction with CNY.

The former teacher said she was so excited by the extraordinary response he received despite the current unstable economic situation.

Noraisah started her business from home in 2014 using a cake making machine given to her by her late mother who previously ran the same business.

She now has a five-door shop in Sijangkang that has been operating since 2016 and has sales agents reaching over 300 people nationwide.
