KLFW founder Andrew Tan looking into payment backlogs after social media backlash

This update from KLFW is the latest following public outcry from the modelling community and local fashion observers

KUALA LUMPUR – Amid the fuss that was brought about over Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week’s (KLFW) backdated payouts for past runway shows, the event’s founder Andrew Tan has come up with a new statement this morning to further look into payment disputes of withstanding modelling services.

“For KLFW 2022 specifically, I will personally oversee all aspects of finance and payment will be made in full to our assigning Model Casting Director in advance to the Fashion Week.

“This shall be the way we do things in the future,” he expressed via Whatsapp to The Vibes.

Models and others with payment disputes over the years – since KLFW took off – have been called to write to the fashion director directly at [email protected].

Tan clarified that the terms of payment will be dealt with accordingly for the cases in question.

He also took the time to deny allegations that KLFW received grant assistance in the past from Market Development Grant (Matrade) Malaysia.

“The claims have nothing at all to do with us. It must be another fashion week platform that people mixed us up with,” said Tan.

This is the first official address by the event and its founder over the matter to the press.

“No doubt, we have had to delay payments. During the last two years, the challenges were unsurmountable for all businesses, including us.

“While we had plans to rectify all dues, a great setback happened and we were unable to proceed with more positive plans,” said Tan.

“We are hopeful with the economy opening back up and KLFW back on again this year, we will be able to rectify all our dues.

“We apologise to everyone affected and hope for everyone’s understanding as we try to revive the Malaysian fashion industry after two-years worth of stagnation, uncertainty and losses,” he added.

In addition, the KLFW founder extended his thanks to all who have been supportive of the event in his message.

“It’s been a pleasure to see designers flourish and become who they are today. To everyone that has played a role in KLFW, we like to thank you for your continuous support.”
