King Charles III delivers his inaugural address to Parliament

LONDON : King Charles III today delivered his first speech in the British Parliament since ascending to the throne after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The new monarch delivered an inaugural address to members of parliament in Westminster Hall, praising the important traditions of Britain’s lawmakers.

The chamber is the oldest part of the British Parliament and will house his late mother’s coffin from Wednesday evening until the funeral on Monday.

“I stand before you today, unable to resist the majesty of history around us that reminds us of the tradition of the importance of the Parliamentary system in which members of both houses express their commitment for the good of all,” he said on Monday.

In his speech, King Charles III revealed the importance of the history and tradition of the country’s Parliament.

He said parliament is an important democratic instrument and Queen Elizabeth II has set an example of selfless duty.

His Majesty will next go to Scotland to join the procession accompanying his mother’s coffin along the Royal Mile in Edinburgh to St. Giles.
