Kedah does not intend to reconsider the termination of the gambling license – Muhammad Sanusi
ALOR SETAR: The Kedah state government insists it will not reconsider the decision to terminate all gambling and lottery licenses that have been in force in the state.
Kedah Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said, the decision has taken the views of all parties and the issue is not only about one race but gambling has also had a bad effect on all races in this country.
“We are adamant that we will not withdraw and there will be no reconsideration because this is not just an issue of one race.
“Gambling destroys all races, it has never been a tool to create racial harmony,” he said today.
Muhammad Sanusi gave a reaction to the suggestion by the state DAP Secretary, Teh Swee Leong that the state government could reconsider the decision to end all gambling and lottery licenses in Kedah.
Swee Leong said that the move should be reconsidered in order to maintain racial harmony and control social problems.
In his further comments, Muhammad Sanusi said Swee Leong was first asked to prove that gambling can create racial harmony.
He said this is because racial harmony can only be formed through integration in schools, sports activities, cultural arts, the same spoken language and other effects of gambling.
“If it’s true, I ask him (Swee Leong) to prove that gambling can form racial harmony,” he said.
Last Sunday, Astro AWANI reported that all operations of gambling and lottery premises in Kedah will be completely terminated on January 1, 2023, following the state government’s decision to no longer renew gambling licenses.
Accordingly, Muhammad Sanusi ordered the local authorities (PBT) to monitor and ensure that all related premises comply with the instructions decided in November 2021.
